Supported scanners

10Scan LiveScan works with three FBI Appendix F certified ten-print scanners. Bring one you already own, or buy new or refurbished from BiometricSource, our sister store. We do not sell hardware on this site and we do not mark it up.

The three devices

Thales (Green Bit)

Thales DactyScan84c

FBI Appendix F certified

The large-platen workhorse of applicant fingerprinting: slaps, flat thumbs and rolled prints on one device.

Captures
Four-finger slaps, flat thumbs, rolled prints (4-4-2 and the FD-258 roll set)
Sensor
Optical platen, 500 ppi
Connection
USB
Good to know
Keep the platen clean; the live preview shows smudges before they cost you a retake. No palm capture.

Integrated Biometrics

Integrated Biometrics Kojak

FBI Appendix F certified

Light-emitting sensor film instead of glass and prisms: thin, light, and tolerant of dry or worn fingers.

Captures
Four-finger slaps, flat thumbs, rolled prints (4-4-2 and the FD-258 roll set)
Sensor
LES (light emitting sensor) film, 500 ppi
Connection
USB powered, one cable
Good to know
Reads well in bright rooms and with dry skin where optical platens struggle. No palm capture.

Suprema

Suprema RealScan-10

FBI Appendix F certified

A compact optical ten-print scanner that fits a small counter: rolled, flat and slap capture.

Captures
Four-finger slaps, flat thumbs, rolled prints (4-4-2 and the FD-258 roll set)
Sensor
Optical platen, 500 ppi
Connection
USB
Good to know
Sold new today by Xperix (the former Suprema ID business) as the RealScan G10. We support the RealScan-10; ask us before buying a G10. No palm capture.

What every supported device gives you

  • Rolled prints, flat thumbs and four-finger slaps at 500 ppi, the resolution every civil applicant record requires.
  • NFIQ 2 quality scored on the station for every impression, with a retake prompt below the threshold.
  • Live preview on screen while the finger is on the platen, so the operator corrects pressure and placement before capture.
  • One desktop app for all three devices; the operator never opens vendor software, and updates install themselves.

What is not supported

Single-finger and two-finger readers (the small FAP 10 to FAP 30 devices) capture flats only and cannot produce the rolled prints an applicant record needs. Palm capture is not supported on any of the three devices, so criminal booking transactions are out of scope. A device without an FBI Appendix F certification cannot be used for a civil applicant record even if it plugs in.
